Throndson and Associates Airdrie Realtor’s Market Update And Selling Tips

Soft sales continue in both the Calgary and Airdrie housing market. With rising inventories, house prices have remained relatively flat. this is partially due to changes in the lending industry.

Airdrie, Canada - May 17, 2018 /PressCable/ —

Changes to the lending industry and a challenging economic recovery are weighing on sales activity in Calgary’s housing market.

Supply levels have not adjusted to the weaker demand environment, and that is preventing price recovery.

“Slower sales do not come as a surprise, given the economy has not yet improved enough to offset the impact of changes in the lending industry,” said CREB chief economist Ann-Marie Lurie.

“While the rising inventories are being monitored, prices have remained relatively flat as gains in some areas of the city have been offset by declines in other areas.”

5 PRO PAINTING HACKS

Painting seems simple — just slap it on, right? — There many things to think about for a truly professional look. Next time you paint, consider these tips for a finish you can be proud of.

Prevent splatter with plastic wrap

Remove as much furniture as possible when painting, there will often be some awkward objects remaining — particularly bathroom fixtures. Use plastic wrap to cover these and paint without the fear of spoiling them with errant drips or splatter.

Stop the smell of paint from becoming overpowering

If you add a couple of drops of vanilla extract to a can of paint, you can avoid the overpowering smell of paint and enjoy a sweet fragrance instead.

Use Q-tips to fix small mistakes

When painting it is important to fix any drips or mistakes quickly, before the paint dries. Keep Q-tips to hand so that you can act fast and accurately.

Remove painter’s tape the easy way

There’s nothing worse than your carefully marked-out tape peeling away paint with it. Avoid that by using a hairdryer on low heat. Point it at the tape from about 7 cm away to soften the tape’s adhesive. This will make pulling it off easy and neat.

Keep brushes soft

When finished painting (whether for the day or longer), soak your brushes in fabric softener. This stops them from becoming dry and stiff. Keeping brushes soft makes painting easier and the results better. To do this:

1. Rinse the brushes with water only.

2. Mix half a cup of fabric softener into 3.75 litres of warm water.

3. Swirl the brushes in the mixture for around 10 seconds each.

4. Lay them flat overnight to dry.

Yosemite reopens to visitors with smoky air, limited lodging

Aug 17, 2018

Hikers and nature lovers returned to Yosemite National Park's scenic valley Tuesday after a rare 20-day closure because of smoke from wildfires. Some said they didn't mind the hazy air that obscured scenic vistas; others came prepared with eye drops and face masks. Park officials also advised visitors to expect limited lodging and food services at Yosemite, one of the busiest national parks in the U.S., as it gets back to full speed following the longest closure in decades. In Montana, hundreds of people were hastily evacuated from Glacier National Park where a wildfire destroyed at least nine homes and...

Lebanon's mountains offer cool refuge from Mideast heat

Aug 17, 2018

FARAYA, Lebanon — The passengers' chatter on the Beirut-bound flight was far from reassuring. Taxi drivers were striking. Traffic was going to be bad. Add the heat and suffocating humidity of a typical summer day and you're hit with a powerful urge to get out of town. The mountains? Absolutely. Whether during war or peace, Lebanon's high mountain ranges have long been a favorite refuge for Lebanese living in cities, towns and villages along the Mediterranean coastline. "If anything happens here (in the mountains) now, then it's probably the end of the world," said 24-year-old old hotelier Elyse Salamah. Just...

Museum of London displays fatberg on 24-hour livestream

Aug 17, 2018

LONDON — London's famous, festering fatberg lives on — and is getting its own livestream . The Museum of London says a chunk of oil, fat, diapers and baby wipes blasted out of a sewer last year is now part of its permanent collection. The museum said Tuesday that the "highly toxic" lump will be stored in a secure case and displayed online via a "fatcam" so that viewers can watch its changes. The fatberg was on display at the museum for several months this year, nestled inside transparent boxes to protect visitors from potentially deadly bacteria and the noxious...

Cooperstown stirs emotions for dad of young baseball player

Aug 17, 2018

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. — Two places have triggered tears of joy in my life: The Vatican and Cooperstown. I wasn't surprised when it happened in my mother's homeland while kneeling and praying in St. Peters as the nephew of a Roman Catholic priest and the great nephew of a Dominican nun. Even though I'm an emotional Italian-American, I did not expect to have my emotions tugged as they were last month in upstate New York. With my wife, our son, daughter and her friend, we broke up a nine-hour drive from Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Cooperstown into a two-day trip. We...

Baseball with signatures of 11 greats fetches $623,369

Aug 17, 2018

LOS ANGELES — How could a baseball artifact possibly top a ball signed by both Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig? How about a ball signed by Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb, Cy Young, Tris Speaker, George Sisler, Walter Johnson, Connie Mack, Nap Lajoie, Eddie Collins and Pete Alexander, on the day they all entered the Baseball Hall of Fame? Such a ball just sold for $623,369, SCP auctions said Monday. That crushes the record of $345,000 for a signed baseball, set in 2013 for a Ruth-Gehrig ball. The seller was not identified, and the winner who outbid 28 other...
